Amazon started its experiment with cashierless stores by opening up an Amazon Go location at its own building in Seattle. It recently opened up its second location in the city and the company is now working on expanding these stores in other cities across the country as well. The first Amazon Go store outside Seattle has now been opened in Chicago.
The concept remains the same in the latest location in Chicago. There will be no checkout lines and the store will be open long hours from 7 AM to 8 PM. Customers will check in using the Amazon Go app before entering the store, take the items they want and just walk out. Their bill will be calculated automatically and charged to the credit card on file.
The store is located at 113 S. Franklin St., on the first floor of an office complex where Amazon’s Chicago office is located. It will be open on weekdays The store is mainly going to sell basic groceries, prepared lunches, snacks, drinks, and frozen dinners.
Amazon is clearly interested in expanding the Go cashierless stores in other cities across the country. We can expect to see these stores popping up in other cities in the not too distant future.
