Instagram Is Improving Its Browser App With Notifications

Instagram is usually best accessed via its mobile app. However the social network does have a web presence, although admittedly the web version of Instagram is a very poor substitute for the mobile version. However it appears that Instagram is working to change that, and one of those ways is by introducing notifications.

Spotted by Android Police, it appears that Instagram is now showing a popup to users who visit its website via a browser (either mobile or desktop) asking them if they want to enable notifications. Previously Instagram could display notifications, but this update seems to be for push notifications which lets users monitor their Instagram activity in real-time.

For example just like WhatsApp which has a web/desktop version, users can leave Instagram on the web open in a browser tab and check notifications while doing other things, as opposed to having to keep checking their phones. Users will be able to post comments, like images, and more, so for brands or individuals looking to engage on Instagram without hopping back and forth between their phones and computers, this could be a useful feature to have.

We expect that eventually Instagram will bring more of its mobile features to the desktop, but for now the mobile app is still the best way to use the app.
