For parents who are worried about their kids being on social media, it appears that Instagram has some resources ready for parents of teens. These resources basically tell parents about Instagram (in case they didn’t know) and also the various tools that are in place that teens could use to keep themselves safe.
For example they point out certain privacy features, such as preventing anyone other than explicitly-approved friends from seeing their accounts. It also teaches them about blocking unwanted accounts from following them or seeing their content, as well as managing comments by deleting the ones that might be considered abusive.
Instagram also highlights some of its digital wellbeing tools like managing the time spent on the platform, where parents can help their kids set daily reminders of how long they should be spending a day on the app.
According to Instagram “We know that as a parent it may be hard to understand the changing digital landscape and what your kids are doing online. That’s why we’ve created this resource. We’re here to fill you in on what Instagram is all about, give you some conversation starters for you and your teen, and show you some of the tools that are in place to keep your teen safe.”
