However Huawei thinks that maybe they can dethrone Apple and have claimed that its Kirin 980 chipset will be able to outperform Apple’s latest A12 Bionic chipset which can be found in Apple’s latest iPhones. Both processors are built using the 7nm processor and with the Kirin 980, Huawei will be debuting it with its upcoming Mate 20 handset.
Huawei claims to have worked on the Kirin 980 for the past three years and so far they are boasting 6.9 billion transistors, 75% faster than the previous generation’s CPU, and 46% faster than the previous generation’s GPU. They are also boasting 57% better power efficiency for the CPU.
All of this sounds great, but whether or not it will actually beat the A12 Bionic remains to be seen. That being said given that Huawei and Apple make phones that run different platforms, we wouldn’t exactly call this a fair comparison, but in any case the numbers do look promising especially for those who are eyeing the upcoming Mate 20 smartphones.
