However with Hitman 2 which was announced a few months back, IO Interactive has decided that they will be going back to a more traditional release model. This was revealed during PAX West where IO Interactive’s Sven Liebold spoke to Games Industry about their plans on releasing the game.
According to Liebold, “A lot of people were very happy with the episodic format, and it worked for us in the regard that when you play in one location for around one month, and then the next one drops, we sort of re-educated the player that we are all about replayability.” However he also acknowledged that at the same time, there were players who weren’t too thrilled with this format.
“But then we had people who were not so happy with that format. So for Hitman 2 we wanted to bring everyone together so everyone’s happy.” The company does have plans for post-launch content and will also be looking at how they can take advantage of Hitman 2’s new co-op mode. Hitman 2 is currently set for a release on the 13th of November, 2018. It also marks Warner Bros.’ first time publishing the game after Square Enix decided to part ways with IO Interactive last year.
