Despite Optimus Prime essentially being one of the main characters from the Transformers franchise, it’s hard to ignore the fact that Bumblebee somehow managed to steal the spotlight in the movies, resulting in the character getting its own movie. For those curious about the standalone movie, you might want to check out the trailer above.
The trailer is for the new Bumblebee movie which is currently set for a release in the later part of the year. According to the description, “On the run in the year 1987, Bumblebee finds refuge in a junkyard in a small Californian beach town. Charlie, on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers Bumblebee, battle-scarred and broken. When Charlie revives him, she quickly learns this is no ordinary, yellow VW bug.”
The movie will feature Hailee Steinfeld along with the likes of John Cena, just to name a few. The trailer has also revealed several other Transformers characters that fans who grew up with the franchise might recognize, such as the original Soundwave in which the previous movies had depicted the character looking very different.
That being said, a report from earlier this year had revealed that Paramount is considering rebooting the entire Transformers franchise. The franchise to date has been led by director Michael Bay, but he is not expected to return for the reboot. In any case for those who have enjoyed the movies thus far, the Bumblebee movie will be the last film before the entire series is rebooted.
