It’s safe to say the The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is one of the more successful and popular video games in recent years. The game has not only become the best-selling Zelda title of all time, over in Japan, it appears to have also become the best-selling 3D Zelda game, surpassing the Ocarina of Time.
This is according to numbers revealed by Media Create (via Nintendo Life) in which the game managed to sell a staggering 1.25 million units across both the Nintendo Switch and Wii U consoles. Based on that, it also means that the game has managed to displace the Ocarina of Time which has managed to hold onto the best-selling 3D Zelda game in Japan since 1998.
That being said, one has to wonder about its longevity. Given that Ocarina of Time managed to hold onto its position for a good 20 years, will it be the same for Breath of the Wild? We suppose only time will tell. Nintendo is said to be developing a new Zelda title which could be launched on the Switch. When exactly the game will be released is anyone’s guess, but safe to say that whatever Zelda title is released next, it certainly has very big shoes to fill.
