The report claims that Apple is trying to broaden the appeal of its service, which means that they want to keep its shows as clean and family-friendly as possible. While we can’t fault Apple for that (since that’s also the direction that Disney is known for and has been pretty successful with it), perhaps Apple could be taking it too far.
For example there is a Dr. Dre semi-biopic called Vital Signs, which apparently Apple’s CEO Tim Cook had personally stepped in on when it was reportedly becoming “too violent”. The report also claims that previously Apple had courted creators with the promise that they would not need to censor their vision, but that has changed.
It also seems that not only is Apple trying to get rid of “gratuitous sex, profanity or violence,” they are also trying to avoid shows and content that are too political or has too much religion overtones. It remains to be seen if this family-friendly approach will work for Apple, but what do you guys think?
