It is no secret that Apple is steadily trying to acquire content for its rumored upcoming streaming service. This includes signing a bunch of big names to help produce content, as well as buying up shows. Apple’s interest also extends to movies, which is why it did not come as a surprise to learn that Apple is shopping for movies at the Toronto International Film Festival.

This is according to a report from Variety, in which Jamie Erlicht and Zack Van Amburg, who are the heads of content programming for Apple, were spotted at the event with “checkbooks in hand”. This suggested that both execs were shopping about for new movies that would most likely find its way onto Apple’s streaming platform.

That being said, while Apple is busy buying up all these shows and movies for its platform, the company has yet to officially announce anything regarding the service. It is unclear when it will launch, or more importantly how it will launch. This has led to all kinds of speculation as to whether it will debut in Apple TV, launch as a separate service across multiple platforms, and if it could be sold as a bundle that will include a subscription to Apple Music and news.

Apple made a name for themselves with the launch of iTunes many years ago, changing the way that music was bought. Whether Apple can replicate its success with its video streaming platform remains to be seen, but Apple Music appears to be doing pretty well and is slowly catching up to the likes of more established players such as Spotify.
