In a job listing posted on its website (via Cult of Mac), it seems that Apple is looking to hire a neuroscient. One of the qualifications required by Apple reads, “Deep expertise in sensory perception (i.e., mid to high level vision) as well as extensive research experience in any or all of the following: multi-sensory and sensorimotor integration, depth perception, decision making, neural coding and decoding.”
As Cult of Mac points out, the emphasis on vision seems to suggest that this could have something to do with AR. At the minimum, this could simply be Apple’s way of advancing its AR efforts that we’ve seen on the iPhone, but it could also possibly be have to do with its rumored AR headset, in which the hiring of a neuroscientist could help Apple better understand how to develop such a headset.
No word on when we will see Apple’s rumored AR headset, but some analysts have pegged possible launch dates for 2020 or 2021, but either way we’re still a couple of years away from seeing it happen, so don’t hold your breath just yet.
