‘Watchmen’ TV Series Confirmed For Launch On HBO

There are many graphic novels out there today, and DC’s Watchmen series written by Alan Moore is one of the more classic graphic novels around. In fact in 2009, an official Watchmen movie was launched and while there was no sequel, for those hoping to see more Watchmen on their screens, you now have HBO to thank.

It has been confirmed that a new Watchmen TV series will be launched on HBO come 2019. The series will feature Damon Lindelof (better known for TV series Lost) who will serve as the showrunner, and is also expected to cast the likes of  Regina King, Jeremy Irons, Don Johnson, Tim Blake Nelson, Louis Gossett Jr., just to name a few.

Now it should be noted that the TV series will not be a retelling of the original graphic novel or the movie, but rather it will serve as an extension/sequel of sorts where it is expected to be set in the present day. That being said as The Hollywood Reporter points out, Moore has in the past expressed his distaste for people taking liberties with his work.

Lindelof has tried to placate Moore and his fans with an open letter penned in May in which he wrote (in part), “I have an immense amount of respect for [Watchmen co-creator] Alan Moore. He is an extraordinary talent of mythic proportion. I wrote him a letter, parts of which are not dissimilar to this one, because I owed him an explanation as to why I’m defying his wishes [in working on the series].”
