However it seems that its launch on the PS4 might not happen. This is according to an interview that Bethesda’s Pete Hines did with Game Informer in which he seemed to allude to how the game might actually be skipping its launch on the PS4 due to Sony’s reluctance in allowing for cross-play.
According to Hines, he described the game as having both cross-platform play and cross-platform progress, meaning that what you start on your phone can be carried forward onto the PC, onto Android, and so on. He adds, “It is our intention in order for the game to come out, it has to be those things on any system. We cannot have a game that works one way across everywhere else except for on this one thing.”
When asked if that meant that it might skip the PS4, Hines said, “We continue to talk to all of our platform partners. But those [terms] are essentially non-negotiable. We can’t be talking about one version of Legends, where you take your progress with you, and another version where you stay within that ecosystem or its walled off from everything else. That is counter to what the game has been about.” The company had hinted not too long ago that Sony could also be blocking support for cross-play for Bethesda’s upcoming Fallout 76 game.
