For photographers who shoot in particularly demanding locations, Sony might have something for you. The company has recently announced a SF-G TOUGH series of UHS-II SD cards. As the name implies, these are SD cards that have been designed to be rugged, which means that they should be able to withstand some of the rigors of travel and certain conditions.
According to Sony, the cards will be bend proof up to 180N, drop proof up to 5m, waterproof with an IPX8 rating, and dustproof with an IP6X rating, along with being X-ray proof, magnet proof, anti-static, and temperature proof. Basically these cards have been designed to be tougher and more durable than your average SD card, and then some.
As for specs, we’re looking at 300MB/s read speeds, 299MB/s write speeds, and V90 video speed class, and they will also come with Sony’s SD Scan Utility and File Rescue Software, just in case anything goes wrong. They’ll be available in 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB storage options and will be available this coming October.
