Microsoft Says That Skype Classic Will Be Sticking Around (For Now)

As companies go through various iterations of their apps, naturally it means an evolution in terms of design and features, and it also means that eventually older versions will stop being supported. Such was the case with Microsoft’s Skype 7.0 (also known as Skype Classic) in which there were plans to stop supporting it.

However given that the latest version of Skype isn’t as well-received as Microsoft would have liked, and with many users asking for Microsoft to bring back Skype Classic, you’ll be pleased to know that your prayers have been answered. Microsoft has since confirmed that Skype Classic will not be going anywhere for now.

According to a post on the Microsoft forums by a Microsoft rep, “Based on customer feedback, we are extending support for Skype 7 (Skype classic) for some time. Our customers can continue to use Skype classic until then. Thanks for all your comments – we are listening. We are working to bring all the features you’ve asked for into Skype 8.”

Microsoft does not mention for how long they plan on supporting Skype Classic, but either way if you did prefer this version of Skype then you can go ahead and keep using it until its time is up.
