The original Onimusha title, called Onimusha: Warlords back in the day, is being brought back. Capcom has confirmed that it’s going to release this PlayStation 2 classic not only on the PlayStation 4 but also the Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch. The re-release of this title has been scheduled for next year.
It has been 17 years since Onimusha: Warlords was first released for the PlayStation 2. The title sold more than two million copies worldwide on the PlayStation 2. The game is set in feudal Japan after the perceived death of the evil lord Nobunaga Oda. It follows through the story of the samurai Samanosuke Akechi and ninja Kaede who are on a mission to save Princess Yuki.
The title was actually conceived as a spin-off from the Resident Evil series which featured ninjas instead of the familiar characters that fans know and love today. That game would have had a mansion complete with booby traps, hidden pathways, and other ninja-inspired elements. It was later decided that Onimusha: Warlords would be a separate game but it kept one feature from the earlier Resident Evil games, the fixed camera.
Capcom confirmed today that Onimusha: Warlords is going to be released on January 15th, 2019 for PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch. The title brings high-definition graphics, a new control scheme for analog sticks, support for widescreen, and a new soundtrack.
