HTC launched its Viveport VR store back in 2016. Many couldn’t really understand the need for it back then seen one could easily find the VR experiences on Steam as well. However, a subscription plan was made available last year which allowed subscribers to get five VR titles for a low monthly fee. Now, support for the HTC Viveport VR store is being added to the Oculus Rift as well.
As the name suggests, the Viveport VR store was initially limited to HTC’s own Vive headset. The monthly subscription made it appealing to users as they could pay a $9 subscription fee and get five titles for free every month. It was a better deal than blind buying VR titles and then hoping that they’d end up liking them.
Starting September 4th, Oculus Rift owners will also be able to access the Viveport VR store. They won’t be limited to the listings. Even the subscription service is being opened up to Rift owners.
Small icons present on every listing will indicate which titles are compatible with the Vive and the Rift. It’s easy to filter titles that won’t work on either handset. Rift owners will be spoilt for choice when they’re able to access the Viveport VR store as it hosts hundreds of VR titles.
