During an interview with mynavi.jp (via Nikon Rumors), Nikon Imaging Business Development Department Director Hiroyuki Ikegami revealed that there are plans to create a “pro” model for the Z-series. Nikon’s DSLR lineup has many models, and while the D850 is one of the company’s highly-regarded models in recent times, there is also the D5 series.
When Ikegami was asked if there were plans to launch such a camera for the Z-series, he replied by saying, “Count on it!” We suppose this shouldn’t be surprising when you look at the current market for mirrorless cameras. Sony has the A7 series of full-frame mirrorless cameras, but they also have the A9 series for those who need a little extra.
So for Nikon to consider an even higher tier of mirrorless cameras in the future doesn’t really come as a shock. When exactly that will take place remains to be seen, but given that a leaked roadmap suggests that there won’t be new Z cameras next year, we suppose pros will need to wait until 2020 at the earliest.
