The report quotes the movie’s director (now former) Rob McElhenney who appears to have dropped out from it. The director (and star of “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”) was quoted as saying, “No, that is not happening.” McElhenney does not state the reason for dropping out, but given that the movie now needs a new director, we imagine that there will be some delays as a result of the transition.
However hopefully it won’t be too big of delay because Aaron and Adam Nee are said to have been tapped to direct the movie in McElhenney’s place. There is no word on when the movie will be release, but previously it was targeted for somewhere in 2019 so hopefully it will still be on track for a release next year.
It will be interesting to see what kind of movie Minecraft will be like given that the game doesn’t really have much of its own storyline to begin with. We have heard rumors that Steve Carell could be part of it, but other than that there’s no mention of who else could be starring in it.
