According to Brian Kwon, president of LG Home Entertainment Company, “LG’s first 8K OLED TV is the pinnacle of technological achievement and the next evolutionary step in display technology. 4K OLED played a major role in reshaping TV industry and LG is confident that 8K OLED will do the same.”
The TV will sport a resolution of 7,680 × 4,320 which is over 33 million pixels, which if you’re trying to imagine what that looks like, imagine four sets of 4K displays arranged in a two by two grid. That being said, it is unclear as to how much this 8K TV will cost. Given that 4K TVs aren’t quite as cheap yet, we doubt that this will be wallet-friendly.
LG admits that the 8K market is still in its infancy but they expect that this will change in the next four years where it will grow to more than 5 million units. You may remember the LG 8K display (or panel) that was presented at CES 2018: this is the “Television” implementation of that technology.
