Earlier this year during CES 2018, JBL announced the Link View. This was a smart speaker with an 8-inch touchscreen display that also came with Google Assistant built into it, which seemed like Google’s way of taking on the Amazon Echo Show. The good news is that if this was something you were interested in, it looks like it is now available for pre-order.
The speaker is currently available on JBL’s website where it is priced at $250 and is expected to begin shipping out on the 3rd of September. That being said, the JBL Link View isn’t the first Google Assistant-enabled speaker with a built-in touchscreen display. That honor goes to Lenovo who recently launched the Lenovo Smart Display.
In terms of functionality, for the most part both speakers should be identical in what they offer, which is access to Google assistant which in turn lets users control various smart objects in their home like lights, home security systems, thermostats, and more. The benefit of having a display is that you get to do extra things like watch videos, make Duo calls, and more.
In any case now there are at least two options for users to choose from, although admittedly JBL’s is slightly more expensive as Lenovo’s 8-inch Smart Display will be priced at $200, a good $50 cheaper, while the 10-inch Full HD Smart Display will be priced the same as JBL’s.
