Google has been preparing for the upcoming fall semester by adding new features to Classroom over the past couple of months. The features are available on the Acer Chromebook Tab 10 as well which is the first tablet to be powered by Google’s web-based Chrome OS. The company has now announced that it’s adding support for its ARCore augmented reality platform to the tablet.
Google’s Classroom platform has also been updated ahead of the upcoming semester. A new Classwork page has been added to help teachers and students stay organized. Classwork will also let teachers easily group assignments into units or modules.
ARCore is Google’s software-based platform for augmented reality. It, therefore, doesn’t require specialized hardware and enables the company to provide AR experiences on a wide variety of modern Android devices.
The feature won’t be available immediately, though. Google mentions on its blog that ARCore will run on the Acer Chromebook Tab 10 this fall. Support for its AR platform will enable students with the tablet to experience Google’s Expeditions AR and other augmented reality apps directly on the device.
The Acer Chromebook Tab 10 has a 9.7 inch 2048×1535 pixel resolution LCD display with an OP1 processor, 4GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. It has already been available for education and commercial customers in North America for $329.
