Epic had previously confirmed that Fortnite Battle Royale for Android would not be launched on the Google Play Store, and would instead be made available via other means. Google has typically encouraged users to download apps through the Play Store for security purposes, although the company has remained oddly silent about this, at least until now.
Spotted by Reddit users (via 9to5Google), Google is now somewhat acknowledging the fact that Fortnite is not available on Google Play. This comes via a message displayed in the search results on the Play Store where searching for “Fortnite” will see the message above displayed, informing users that Fortnite Battle Royale is not available via Google Play.
For those who have been following the news, you’re probably aware that the game will not be available through the Play Store, but this message will let other gamers know that should they stumble across any game that sounds or looks similar, it is a fake and that they should not download it.
Epic cited the cut Google takes from in-app purchases as one of the reasons why they decided to bypass the Play Store, which makes sense given how much the game stands to make, but at the same time the fact that it isn’t available on the Play Store does leave it open for hackers and scammers to try and take advantage of, such as the fake ads that have been popping up in recent times.
