Lyft wants Americans to get out and vote. For this reason, the ride-sharing has announced that it’s going to offer free rides to get people out on November 6th so that they can do their civic duty and vote in the upcoming U.S. midterm elections. It has teamed up with Vote.org, Nonprofit Vote, and TurboVote on this campaign to get as many people out as possible to go vote on November 6th.
It will distribute 50 percent off coupons to riders who need them. In addition to that, Lyft will be providing free rides to underserved communities so that they can do their civic duty in these midterm elections. For this, Lyft is working with nonpartisan and non-profit organizations such as Urban League and Voto Latino.
Lyft points out that around 15 million people who were registered to vote didn’t do so in the 2016 elections due to transportation issues. Lyft is aiming to help them get to the polling booth by offering 50 percent off and free rides so that they can go and cast their ballot.
The company’s efforts to encourage voters will go beyond incentives on rides. It will remind users about voter registration deadlines through its social media accounts as well as through push notifications.
