Many online services are jumping on the time well-spent bandwagon. They’re building tools that give their users more insight about the time that they spend on their services. Facebook was working on a similar feature for its social network and Instagram as well. The company today announced that these new tools are now live.
The new tools will help people manage their time on Facebook and Instagram, they include the activity dashboard, a daily reminder, and a new way to limit notifications. They are available from the settings page in either app, accessible by tapping “Your Activity” in Instagram and “Your Time on Facebook” on Facebook.
The dashboard will show users their average time for that app on their device. They will be able to see their total time for that day. The tools also let users set a daily reminder so that they’re given an alert when they spend more time on that app for the day. The new Notification Settings offers a new Mute Push Notifications settings to limit notifications from Facebook or Instagram for a specific period of time.
Facebook says that it has developed these tools with collaboration and inspiration from leading mental health experts, academics, and organizations. Its own extensive research and feedback from the users have been weighed in as well.
