Google Chrome’s autocomplete feature is pretty handy when it comes to offering up search suggestions to reduce time wasted on searching for the wrong topics. Now it looks like Google is taking those search suggestions to the next level by predicting what you might be interested in searching next.
Spotted by 9to5Google, it appears that Google is testing a new feature in Chrome where on the New Tab page, it will display search suggestions based on what you might have searched for in the past. Just like the most visited thumbnails, some of these search suggestions could be embarrassing for some users, but the good news is that users have the option to not display those topics or disable these suggestions entirely.
As to why anyone would need such a feature, it could come in handy if you’re doing something halfway and need to leave, and these suggestions could serve as a reminder that you were in the middle of something. It could also help users expand their knowledge on certain topics, especially if they’re doing research.
That being said, it appears that these suggestions are currently a test as not all users are seeing it at the moment. As with all tests, there is no guarantee that Google will keep it, but what do you guys think of it? Is this a feature you’d like to see in Chrome?
