Based on an industry analysis by TrendForce (via MacRumors), they have predicted that the 6.1-inch LCD iPhone could be priced starting at $699 to $749. This is for the base model which presumably will be offered at 64GB of storage. This pricing doesn’t come as a surprise as the iPhone 8 is also priced starting at $699, although you would think that the larger 6.1-inch display would mean that it could cost more.
However according to the report, the lower pricing is said to be in response to lower than expected iPhone sales last year, and also due to the stiff competition faced by Apple from Chinese OEMs who have been putting out more affordable handsets. However this lower price does come at the sacrifice of certain features.
If the rumors are to be believed, Apple is said to be doing away with some iPhone features to make the phone more affordable, such as using LCD instead of OLED, and also ditching 3D Touch, which admittedly didn’t really gain the amount of traction that Apple had hoped. In any case take it with a grain of salt for now, but if last year’s iPhones were a bit too expensive for your liking, hopefully the report of a $699 6.1-inch iPhone this year is true.
