This is according to analysts at Barclays who believes that Apple’s wireless charging solutions will finally be ready for primetime come September. This includes a wireless charging case for the AirPods, along with the AirPower charging mat that was announced last year. This is actually not the first time we’re hearing a September date, but this also isn’t surprising given that Apple’s new iPhones are expected to be announced in September.
This means that for Apple to release its wireless charging products alongside the new iPhones is an expect move. The AirPower charging mat has been talked about for a while now and it is unclear why it has taken Apple so long, although earlier reports have claimed that this was due to issues of overheating.
Apple is also said to have redesigned the AirPower where it will feature 22 charging coils, with each coil being isolated so that it can cover the entire surface of the mat without overlapping each other. It has also been rumored to cost $150 which is rather pricey for a wireless charging mat, so it remains to be seen how Apple will be able to differentiate it from regular Qi-compatible charging mats that have long existed in the market.
