However to make up for it, Apple included a Lightning-to-headphone jack converter, where it allowed users to plug their headphones into the Lightning port on their iPhones. Unfortunately it seems that Apple may no longer be bundling the adapter.
This is according to Cirrus Logic who makes audio hardware products for Apple, where Cowen analyst Matthew D. Ramsay in a note to investors said that Cirrus’ guidance for the second quarter “all but confirms that Apple will not bundle the DAC headset converter ‘dongle’ in its new iPhone models.”
The semi-good news is that if you weren’t planning on buying Apple’s 2018 iPhones, it seems that the adapter will continue to be shipped with older models, presumably last year’s models, so there’s that. Also if you’re upgrading from the iPhone 7, 8, or X, then there’s really no need for another adapter since you could always use the old one.
Apple has since been pushing its wireless headphones such as the AirPods which are rumored to be getting a refresh possibly this year with water-resistance as one of its features. There are also rumors of noise-cancelling AirPods which could be due in 2019.
