Acer Chromebook 514 Launched With Gorilla Glass Touchpad

Chromebooks are often seen as a more affordable alternative to Windows or Mac-based laptops. Of course there are concessions that need to be made in which you would give up the running of certain apps that might not be compatible with Chrome OS. However if you’re fine with that, Acer has something for you.

At IFA 2018, the company took the wraps off its latest Chromebook efforts in the form of the Chromebook 514. This is the company’s latest Chromebooks which will feature a metallic chassis, a backlit keyboard, and also a touchpad the features the use of Corning’s Gorilla Glass. According to Acer, the use of Gorilla Glass will help create a “slicker feel” compared to plastic which is more commonly used.

If you’ve ever used a MacBook (which also uses a glass-covered trackpad) then you probably know Acer is right. The laptop will also sport a narrow bezel that will help make the laptop look smaller, but still manage to pack a 14-inch Full HD IPS display under the hood. Acer is also boasting that the Chromebook 514 will be able to squeeze out 12 hours of battery life, although admittedly your mileage may vary depending on what you do with it.

Acer will also be including USB-C ports which means that for those who are still using devices and accessories with USB-A connections, you’ll need to get some adapters or dongles. In terms of pricing, Acer has priced the Chromebook 514 at $350 and is expected to go on sale this coming October.
