YouTube, the largest user-submitted video platform on the internet, has an app through which users can access virtual reality content on compatible devices. The app is already available for Daydream, HTC Vive, and PlayStation VR headsets. The company is finally bringing the YouTube VR app to the Gear VR headset from Samsung.
The team behind this app wants everyone with a virtual reality headset to be able to experience YouTube VR and that’s why they have brought it to the Gear VR as well. In addition to being available on the aforementioned headsets, it’s also available now for Samsung’s Gear VR.
The YouTube VR app for the Gear VR is going to be distributed through the Oculus Store which is where Gear VR owners get their apps from. The team has confirmed that the YouTube VR app for this device will be available for download starting this week.
A new feature has also been added to the YouTube VR app which will enable users to watch and discuss videos with their friends in a virtual space. This “Watch Together” feature can be accessed from within the app. The relevant option will be located beneath the play controls on the Daydream View and Gear VR headsets.
