T-Mobile is among the major U.S. carriers that are putting the infrastructure in place to soon launch a nationwide 5G network. To that end, Magenta has announced that it has inked a $3.5 billion agreement with Nokia to accelerate the deployment of its nationwide 5G network in the United States. This is the biggest 5G-related agreement of its kind that we have seen so far.
This is Nokia’s largest 5G agreement and will see the telecommunications company provide end-to-end 5G solutions for T-Mobile’s network. Nokia is going to supply T-Mobile with complete end-to-end 5G technology, software, and services.
The company will help Magenta build its nationwide 5G network with 600 MHz and 28 GHz millimeter wave 5G capabilities compliant with 3GPP 5G New Radio (NR) standards. It will thus cover broad availability in addition to the spectrum that’s required for dense urban areas.
“This is a testament to our companies’ strong and productive working relationship, one which has produced several important technological milestones in recent months, and which now allows us to make 5G a commercial reality,” said Nokia CEO Ashish Chowdhary.
Using this 5G technology, Nokia and T-Mobile will develop, test, and launch the next-generation connectivity network in the United States. T-Mobile has already confirmed that it will start building out its 5G network in 30 U.S. cities this year.
