According to a report from Korean publication ETNews, it seems that the handset’s display might not be completely foldable, but only foldable up to two-thirds of the way. The translated report reads, “There are many ways to fold. When folded in half, the display is invisible, so the display is folded only about two-thirds. The time is displayed, or the form showing the number when the phone is called. When folded, the aspect ratio is estimated to be closer to a rectangle than a square.”
Assuming the report is correct, it sounds a lot like the flip phones from back in the day where there would be a small portion of the display visible to let users know who is calling, but the rest of the phone would need to be flipped open to access the rest of the device. It sounds like it would be an interesting device, but whether or not it will take remains to be seen.
However from what we’ve heard, Samsung’s foldable phone is expected to be a limited-run device meaning Samsung could merely be launching it gauge its reception, and that it could also cost as much as $2,000.
