oneplus 6Updates are usually viewed as a good thing since it means either improvements, bug fixes, or even new features. Unfortunately in some cases updates can also cause some unwanted side-effects, and in the case of OnePlus 6 owners, it appears that a recent update to the handset has caused some issue with the display.

Posts on Reddit and the OnePlus forums (via PhoneArena) has revealed that there are some OnePlus 6 owners who discovered that under certain lighting conditions, they are noticing that their handset displays are flickering as if they are shifting back and forth between different brightness levels. Those affected are claiming that this is more prominent with images or content that is most white, and also content with very vivid colors (meaning that content with muted or dark colors don’t seem so obvious).

These users are also claiming that this seems to happen under very bright sunlight. The reports of the issue also started coming in after the OxygenOS 5.1.8 update, so it is possible that this could be a software issue that could potentially be interfering with the phone’s ambient light sensor versus a hardware problem.

OnePlus has yet to find out what’s wrong and have requested that users who are experiencing it share a log of their phone along with a recording of the screen. At the moment there is no word on when how quickly a patch will arrive or how widespread the problem is.
