NVIDIA’s GeForce Now streaming service lets users stream games on their PC and Mac. The company offered a similar service with the same name for its Shield set-top box as well but it didn’t offer the full experience like it did on PCs. The company said last month that it would upgrade the GeForce Now service for the device in the coming months and that update has been announced today. The NVIDIA Shield is getting a full-fledged version of the GeForce Now streaming service.
The updated GeForce Now for the NVIDIA Shield will let users play any of the 225 supported PC games. They will also be able to purchase new games from Steam and Uplay directly. Downloaded games become available for streaming almost instantly as they’re stored on the cloud and NVIDIA handles all of the patches as well so that they don’t eat into the local storage.
The updated GeForce Now service for the Shield also supports cloud saves and a single account so that users don’t have to make separate accounts for Mac, PC, and the Shield. Shield owners who already subscribe to the existing GeForce Now service will be upgraded to the full-fledged offering which is now live in beta.
It still costs $8 per month as before and NVIDIA is yet to confirm if it’s going to raise prices down the line now that the service does much more than it used to do.
