Netflix launched its Downloads feature back in 2016. It enabled users to download content to watch offline and the feature has understandably been very useful for those who find themselves without an internet connection often and would like to keep following their favorite shows and movies. Netflix is now making this feature smarter so that it automatically downloads the next episode of the show that the user is watching.
Netflix’s Smart Downloads feature will automatically download the next episode of the show. When the user finishes watching a downloaded episode, Smart Downloads will delete that episode and automatically download the next one.
This will make life easier for users since they won’t have to go through their storage to find and delete episodes they no longer need just so they can download new ones. Smart Downloads will take care of maximizing storage space on the device so that there’s as much free space for content as possible.
Smart Downloads will only download the next episode when the handset is connected to Wi-Fi. It won’t do that on mobile data. Users will have the option to keep this feature switch off from the Downloads section of the Netflix app for Android if they would much rather keep old episodes downloaded so that they can watch them again whenever they want. Netflix hasn’t said when this feature will be available on iOS devices.
