Nestle is one of the many major corporations who have committed to using renewable energy to power a big chunk if not the entirety of their operations. To that end, Nestle today announced the opening of a nine turbine wind farm which can produce enough renewable energy to power half of the company’s factories in the United Kingdom and Ireland in addition to its offices and warehouses.
The company said in a statement today that its nine turbine wind farm located at Sanquhar in Dumfries and Galloway is capable of generating 125 gigawatt hours of power every year. That’s enough electricity to power 30,000 homes, the power from this wind farm will be sent directly to the national network annually.
“We all have a part to play in reducing climate change and its effects while making sure that we safeguard our planet’s future,” Stefano Agostini, the CEO of Nestle U.K. and Ireland, said.
Nestle has already been using 100 percent renewable, grid-supplied electricity for its operations in the United Kingdom and Ireland. With the opening of its Sanquhar wind farm, the company is now capable of supplying half of its own energy.
The company has made a commitment to power all of its operations from renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, and hydropower “within the shortest practical timescale.”
