Google released the first Android P beta several months ago. The beta program was supported by its Pixel handsets as well as select handsets from a couple of other OEMs. The second beta arrived a few weeks back and now Google is rolling out the third Android P beta for supported devices. This is actually a “near-final” Android P build which Google engineering VP Dave Burke refers to as an “early release candidate build.”
Burke adds that the latest Android P build “takes us very close to what you’ll see in the final version of Android P.” It includes the latest bug fixes and optimizations but Burke doesn’t say if any new features are part of the latest beta build as well.
The third Android P beta is readily available for Pixel smartphones. Those who are already running the second beta on their device will be automatically upgraded to the latest one. OEM partners who are participating in the Android P beta program will be updating their supported handsets to this latest build in the near future.
Google hasn’t confirmed precisely when it’s going to release Android P to the public. If history is any indication, though, it’s going to happen in the fall so it’s possible that we may have to wait for a few months before Android P is officially released.
