Microsoft Teams Free Version Launched
Microsoft Teams finally has a free version. Redmond has now launched a free version of its Slack rival called Microsoft Teams. It initially came out back in 2016 and while it did manage to win people over, the $60 per year fee made it difficult for smaller enterprises to jump ship. One of the reasons why Slack’s popularity grew was back it offered a free version and now Microsoft Teams is doing the same thing.
Microsoft Teams is now available in a free version in 40 languages. It’s meant for small businesses and groups of coworkers that don’t have commercial Office 365 subscriptions. Any group can now use Teams for joint communication and to discover Microsoft’s Office 365 services as they grow and scale.
The free version can be used for teams with up to 300 people. All users will get unlimited chat messages and search, built-in audio and video calling for individuals and groups, 10GB of team file storage with 2GB extra per user for personal storage, and unlimited app integrations. Integrated, real-time content creation with Office Online apps such as built-in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote is included as well.
Anyone with a corporate or consumer email address can now sign up for the free tier of Microsoft Teams today. Those who don’t already have a paid Office 365 commercial subscription will get access to the free version.
