However a recent report claims that maybe that might not be the case, and that Apple could actually turn to MediaTek for their 5G needs. However according to a report from VentureBeat, it seems that Intel has rubbished those claims. In a statement provided to the publication, “Intel’s 5G customer engagements and roadmap have not changed for 2018 through 2020. We remain committed to our 5G plans and projects.”
The statement refuted a report from Israeli publication CTech, but when asked to clarify if this meant that Apple was one of Intel’s customers for the 5G modems, the spokesperson replied by saying that “the Intel 5G modem part of the story is inaccurate.” As VentureBeat notes, Intel’s relationship with Apple has been of interest in recent times.
While Intel’s chipsets in the iPhones are relatively new, the company has been working with Apple for years for their Mac computers. However there have been claims suggesting that Apple could eventually move away from Intel for their Mac computers as well.
