Huawei has a stated goal of becoming the world’s top smartphone vendor but it has to overtake Apple and Samsung to get that title. Samsung has long been at the top of the list comfortably while Apple has cemented its place in the second position. Huawei wants to challenge them both and it has done a good job of that this year. The company has revealed that it has sold more than 100 million smartphones so far this year.
This was revealed by Huawei’s consumer devices boss Richard Yu during the company’s nova 3 launch event today. He said that as of July 18th, Huawei has sold more than 100 million devices globally so far this year. It’s pertinent to mention here that he’s talking about sales to end users and not shipments.
Yu mentioned that this is the least amount of time ever that Huawei has taken to reach this figure for sales in any given year. The 100 million figure was reached on December 22nd in 2015, October 14th in 2016, and on September 12th in 2017.
We’re just halfway through the year and as of July 18th, Huawei has been able to meet the 100 million smartphone sales milestone for the year. The company thus has plenty of time on its hand to break its annual smartphone sales record by the end of this year. Yu is hoping that Huawei will be able to cross the 200 million mark by December 31st, 2018.
