If there is one main difference you might notice between regular keyboards and mechanical keyboards is that for the most part, mechanical keyboards have a slightly taller profile. This does admittedly take some getting used to, but if a low profile design is something you’re after, then maybe the Hexgears X-1 might be the keyboard for you.
Launched on Kickstarter, the X-1 is a low profile mechanical keyboard. Now the layout of the keyboard might look different compared to regular full-sized keyboards, but it has been designed that way to make it more compact which means that taking it with you on the go should be easier.
The keyboard uses Kaihua’s “Choc” switches which have been designed to provide users with the feeling of a mechanical keyboard, except in a lower profile. The switches will be available in Brown, Red, or White, with each switch offering a different experience in tactility, smoothness, and sound.
Also unlike most mechanical keyboards, the X-1 does feature Bluetooth connectivity which means that if you’re trying to eliminate as many cable as possible, then the X-1 should fit that criteria. The keyboard’s case is made from aluminum and will be backlit, and will also be available in black or white. It is priced at $99 which is actually relatively affordable for a mechanical keyboard, so head on over to Kickstarter if you’d like to pledge your support.
