Google Assistant Is Now Live On Dish Hopper Devices

Dish had confirmed that its Hopper devices would get Google Assistant support. Those who own these units have been waiting for a few months now and their wait finally ends today. Dish has confirmed that its Hopper devices now offer Google Assistant functionality which means that users can control their receivers hands-free using just voice commands.

Dish had actually announced back at the Consumer Electronics Show 2018 in January that Google Assistant would be coming to Hopper devices. It has been almost eight months since the initial announcement was made so the company really has taken its sweet time in bringing this functionality to the receivers.

DISH customers with a Hopper, Hopper Duo, Joey or Wally will now be able to control their TV using voice commands when the units are paired with an Assistant device like the Google Home or smartphones. Dish points out that it’s the first pay-TV provider that offers direct compatibility with Assistant.

Examples of spoken commands that users can give Assistant include “Turn on my Hopper,” “Show me Tom Hanks movies,” and “Go to Food Network,” in addition to a lot more. Setting this up on a compatible Dish device is simple. Users have to download the Google Assistant app on a mobile device and follow the instructions provided on Dish’s Google Assistant integration page.
