Facebook’s News Feed is where you keep up with all that’s happening on the social network. It’s also where you get to see different kinds of ads and now you can add another to the list. Facebook announced today that it has started testing augmented reality ads in the News Feed.
Facebook News Feed AR ads will only be shown to users in the United States only at this point in time. They’re in testing phase so improvements may be made to this ad format down the line. The AR ads will enable users to try on products that are advertised in an experience that will be akin to a Snapchat filter.
One example Facebook has given is with a pair of Michael Kors sunglasses. When users see an AR ad in the News Feed, they will be given the option to tap on the product to see how it will fit on their face. The AR experience is then applied so that they can see how the shades will look on them. A link will be present which will take users straight to the product page if they want to buy it.
Other brands that will be testing Facebook’s AR ad this summer include NYX Professional Makeup, Bobbi Brown, Wayfair, Pottery Barn, and Sephora.
