Drake released his new studio album titled Scorpion a week ago and it was breaking records right out the gate. The singer’s latest album broke his own single-day record for most streams on Apple Music and Spotify. Scorpion was on track to be streamed more than one billion times in its first week and it has managed to do just that.
Drake’s label Republic Records confirmed to The Verge that the singer’s latest album has been streamed more than one billion times globally in its first week alone. Scorpion has also broken the U.S. streaming record with 745.92 million streams in its first week. This record was previously held by Post Malone’s Beerbong & Bentleys which amassed 431 million streams during its first week earlier this year.
Scorpion has had a great run in its first week as it smashed single-day records on all major music streaming services – Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon Music. The album was streamed more than 300 million times in its first 24 hours alone.
More than 730,000 copies of the album has been sold so far in the United States alone which makes Scorpion the album with the largest debut this year. Billboard points out that Scorpion has put Drake firmly ahead of others as he now owns four of the top 10 streaming weeks ever for an album.
