Drake is no stranger to setting and breaking records on streaming services. His new studio album titled Scorpion is out now and Apple has confirmed that Drake has smashed his own single-day record on Apple Music. Scorpion resulted in more than 170 million streams in 24 hours, significantly higher than the previous record of 89.9 million first-day streams set by Drake’s More Life mixtape that came out last year.
It was a similar story on Spotify, the world’s top music streaming service. Scorpion has shattered the one-day global record on Spotify with the album racking up 132,450,203 streams, up 50,000,000 streams compared to the previous record-holder from Post Malone.
The numbers are from data tracker SpotifyCharts.com as the streaming service itself hasn’t confirmed the figures. A representative for Spotify did tell Variety that Drake’s new album has broken the record by a large measure.
While it appears unlikely, if the album continues to rack up streams at this rate, it would total more than one billion streams in its first week which would break yet another record. Post Malone’s Beerbongs & Bentleys also set this record last month with 411 million streams in its first week.
The numbers haven’t come in from other streaming services such as Tidal and Amazon but it’s likely going to be a similar story there given that there seems to be no stopping Drake’s new album.
