Dolby Vision Support Confirmed For Xbox One
Dolby Vision support is coming to the Xbox One S and Xbox One X. Microsoft has confirmed that these consoles will soon receive support for Dolby Vision. They will thus be one of the few streaming devices that have support for both Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. The others include the Chromecast Ultra from Google and the Apple TV 4K.
Microsoft has confirmed that it’s testing Dolby Vision support for the Xbox One S and Xbox One X with Xbox Insiders currently. It’s limited to streaming apps only for now. One of the first apps updated to support Dolby Vision on the Xbox One S and Xbox One X is Netflix.
Dolby Vision will elevate the HDR experience on compatible TVs. It’s widely believed to be superior than the HDR10 standard that’s currently supported by the Xbox One. Metadata is used by Dolby Vision to adjust the color and brightness of scenes and it has support for up to a 12-bit color depth and higher peak brightness targets compared to HDR10.
Xbox One owners will only be able to get the true benefit of this if they have a TV that supports the latest version of Dolby Vision. They will also require a Premium Netflix subscription to actually be able to stream content that’s compatible with this standard.
