Apple Patents Idea Where Wireless Charging Can Work Both Ways

The concept of charging your devices is mostly one way and this concept is especially true for wireless charging where you leave your device on the wireless charging pad and that’s it. However it seems that Apple has come up with an idea (and patented it) where wireless charging might be able to work both ways.

What does this mean? Imagine if you were out and about and your iPhone is running low on battery. However what if you had an iPad that was fully charged? Through the use of inductive charging, Apple’s patent suggests that you could actually use your iPad to wirelessly charge your iPhone.

The use of inductive coils in wireless charging is pretty common and is one of the ways it works, but the patent suggests that these coils can be used to do more than just receive a charge, but can also be used to provide a charge. It is an interesting idea and in theory it could be applicable to computers, where an iMac sitting on the desk could be used to wirelessly charge nearby iPhones or iPads or even an Apple Watch.

This isn’t the first time that Apple has explored the idea of wireless charging. The company has in past looked at harnessing WiFi signals to wirelessly charge devices. In fact that company is expected to launch their AirPower charging mat later this year.
