It’s not a particularly creative name but it does the job of letting users know what it does. The feature is currently only available via the Amazon Music app, but for those who do use the app and service, you will be able to “cast” music from the app to compatible Alexa-enabled devices, such as the Echo lineup of speakers, and also some of Amazon’s Fire devices.
As The Verge points points out, Alexa Cast isn’t exactly a revolutionary feature and given that it only works on Amazon Music at the moment, it does feel a bit limited in terms of functionality. However a statement provided by an Amazon spokesperson says, “We’ll continue to improve this feature and expand support over time.”
Hopefully we’ll see the feature find its way to other apps in the future, such as Spotify, or maybe YouTube, although we reckon that Google might not necessarily care for the competition encroaching on its turf. If you are interested in checking it out, like we said you will need an Alexa-enabled device and the latest version of the Amazon Music app.
