In a report from Electrek, it has been revealed that Tesla is planning on introducing what they are calling a “Premium Connectivity” package option for its customers. What this does is that it will provide car owners with an internet connection that will allow them to show satellite maps along with live traffic visualization, music streaming, and more.
It is unclear what the pricing of this premium package will be, but Electrek has heard that it will be around $100 a year. Now this isn’t to say that if you don’t want to pay for it your car will lose all connectivity. There will be the “Standard Connectivity” option that will still provide internet to your car, except that it will be somewhat limited to features that require low amounts of data, which would be basic navigation.
This means that you won’t be able to access some of the perks that those who paid for the Premium package have. The good news is that for customers who purchased a Tesla before the 1st of July won’t have to pay for internet, and that this only applies to customers who purchase a Tesla after that time period.
