Recent reports have suggested that Samsung is working on a new smartwatch which may be launched as the successor to the Gear S3. This is why it’s currently referred to as the Gear S4 despite reports that the company is planning to shift its Gear devices to the Galaxy branding as well. A new report claims that Samsung might launch the Gear S4 this August, possibly alongside the Galaxy Note 9 which some believe will be announced on August 9.
The previous two generations of its Gear smartwatches were launched at the IFA trade show in Berlin which takes place in September. This year, the company is expected to ditch the IFA stage for its new smartwatch and unveil it alongside the Galaxy Note 9 instead.
Not much is known about the specifications of this new smartwatch but recent reports have suggested that it’s going to be thinner than its predecessor and may even have a bigger battery inside. Other features that are expected to be present include enhanced support for Samsung’s Bixby virtual assistant.
Bear in mind, though, that Samsung hasn’t confirmed anything about its next-generation smartwatch at this point in time so it would be best to take this information with a grain of salt until there’s more to go on.
